Sacred Tobacco
A foundational medicine of grounding, cleansing, and prayerful connection
The sacred Amazonian tobacco I work with is Nicotiana Rustica, known in the Amazon as mapacho. This is not the tobacco found in cigarettes — this is a powerful, ancestral plant used for healing, purification, and connection with spirit. In many Indigenous traditions, tobacco is considered a Master Plant — not a casual substance, but a wise and potent guide.
In my practice, I use tobacco with respect, care, and clear intention. I do not use it habitually. I use it ceremonially.
Smoke Cleansing
Another way I work with tobacco is through smoke cleansing. It is powerful.
In this ceremony, I draw in tobacco smoke and blow it over the body — traditionally over the crown of the head, the heart, the back, and the whole energy field. This helps to clear stagnant or heavy energy, closes holes in the auric field and offers a protective seal around the recipient.
Each cleanse is done with intention and prayer. It may be silent, or accompanied by song.
I use it to support deep release, clear interference, or ground a person back into their body after strong healing work.
Smoke cleansing is a central part of my work — especially when someone is feeling scattered, energetically sensitive, or emotionally heavy. It can bring clarity and insights.
Why I Work with Tobacco
Tobacco has been a deep teacher in my life. It shows me where I am holding on. It helps me listen. It helps me stay clear.
When I use tobacco, I do so with respect. I honour the plant. I speak to it. I give thanks before and after. I do not treat it as a drug — I treat it as an elder.
In a world where tobacco has been misunderstood and abused, I am committed to restoring its true role as sacred medicine.
Tobacco clears the way. Tobacco protects. Tobacco prepares the space for healing. It is one of my main allies.
If you feel called to work with this medicine, I offer a safe, clear, and respectful space for that connection to unfold.
A spirit of protection, purification, and profound grounding.
A Master Plant, revered by countless Indigenous peoples as a direct bridge between Earth and Sky.
In the way I have been taught, and in the way this sacred plant has revealed itself to me, tobacco is a guide: one who clears confusion, who steadies the heart, who calls us back to our centre.
Tobacco spirit is strong - it calls you more deeply in to your truth to be the same.
Smoking as Prayer
I use tobacco as a form of prayer. When I smoke, I do not inhale into my lungs. I draw the smoke into my mouth and release it slowly — in spirals, in offerings, in silence or with prayer.
Each breath is intentional. I offer smoke to the four directions, to the land, to the spirits, to the client I am working with, or to my own body for grounding and clarity. Tobacco, in this way, becomes a way of communicating — a way to send prayer, focus the mind, and offer respect to the unseen.
The tobacco I use is rolled into natural mapacho puros. I light them with care, and only in sacred or healing space. I never smoke out of habit — always with a purpose.
